About LitGRID

Lithuanian parallel and distributed computing and e-services network (LitGrid) is being successfully operated and continues to be developed and installed. It has over 100 users, about 490 processors, and provides its users with computing and e-services capabilities.


LitGrid functionalities include:
  • Grid infrastructure and e-services installation, maintenance and updating
  • "Cloud computing" technology analysis, design and experimental installation
  • Scientific research and scientific development work requiring intensive calculations, educational goals and / or e-services using the Grid technology development, maintenance, search of new users and their training
  • LitGrid CA creation and installation of its maintenance
  • Making LitGrid activities and opportunities known to public, potential users, public and business structures, potential new grid project analysis
  • Relationship with the valleys, clusters, public sector

LitGrid reached indicators:
  • number of institutions (partners) - 13 (VU, KTU, VGTU, VDU, KU, ŠU universities, FI, MII, CE, TFAI institutes, Alytus, Marijampolė, Panevėžys colleges), LitGrid infrastructure is also used by the Lithuanian Energy Institute, Institute of Biochemistry, VU Faculty of Physics, etc.

  • number of applied problems - 44
  • number of processors - 495
  • norm. hours number - about 900 000 hours.
  • providing computing resources and services to research projects, programs, valleys
  • planned grid technology presentations for business

LitGrid further activities are planned to include:
  • create, maintain and develop e-infrastructure: grid, cloud computing, HPC, virtual repositories, other data sets
  • service: academic environment, public sector, business needs, orders from foreign partners
  • provide functionality: computing resources, modeling services, virtual repositories and data sets storage and use
  • provide "on demand": calculations, data repositories related e-services, etc.
  • integration and synchronization of activities: the activities of institution owned computer equipment (administrative, functional, organizational points of view)
  • uptake and usage of technological innovations or new technologies, participation in projects: PRACE, EGI, others
  • promote Lithuanian scientists and experts cooperation with famous research centers (CERN, etc.)
